Something interesting is that there is not only desire to get, but also the desire to get rid of, which is also known as aversion. We may, for example, want to rid ourselves of angry thoughts or feelings. Knowing that we are not our thoughts or feelings, the skillful approach is to be mindful of such thoughts and feelings and, instead of desiring to get rid of them, we should observe them and not let them control our behavior. In this way, because everything is transitory, these thoughts and feelings will disappear on their own.
This reminds me of Adyashanti, who teaches us to let everything be as it is and not struggle to "achieve" any spiritual qualities or states of mind.
Beautifully put together and expressed. Thank you.
